We were contracted to substantially reconstruct and adapt this chalet-style home. The existing front porch/sunroom was demolished, and the oak beams retained and renovated for incorporation in the new works. A Staircase enclosure and Utility Room were constructed at the rear. A temporary roof was installed over the whole building, and the existing roof tiles were removed and conserved. The whole of the first-floor and roof structure was removed, and materials segregated and recycled.
Substantial structural steelwork was accurately measured and manufactured to millimetre tolerances. This was installed beneath the new first-floor and with columns above to support longitudinal beams the full length of the building front and rear.
The new structure to form the roof, dormers and first-floor rooms was cut on site utilising hundreds of metres of treated timber. The roof was covered with a breathable membrane and new clay tiles.
